The Art Of Office Zen
This is not the Karate Kid performing the Crane kick down at the beach with Mr. Miyagi, nor is it meditating like a Buddhist monk high in the mountains of Tibet. The word Zen gets thrown around all over the place; think of all the books labeled "The Zen of Blank". I do not wish to take a heavily used word like Zen and attach it to something that people will take and alter their life, consciousness, or spiritual understandings. No, I am going to use the word Zen how it was meant to be used and apply it to a specific aspect of life that we all deal with on a 9-5 basis, 5 days a week – Work.
Across the planet people have all sorts of jobs and some lucky people don't need them due to financial security. Applying Zen to your job is first applying a simple lighthearted approach to the pressures in life in general. So I am not going to set up rules that must be followed, nor should we look for a certain goal other than a more peaceful work environment.
Office Zen – A guide to Peaceful Work
The aim to here is to make your work environment soothing, productive, and peaceful. Now the word Office will apply to the environment that you work in regardless if you are in a literal office or not. If you are in a home office, with desks, bookcases, and all sorts of other office furniture, well that's your surroundings. If you are pumping gas, flying an airplane, or driving a truck, that's your office.

One Simple Rule
Simplicity is the first step toward a better working environment. When things are simple, they are easy to accept and understand.
When things get too complicated, that's when things get stressful and start to invade any peacefulness you had established. So first off, see complex things as simple. Complexity arrives when it is too much for you to handle, you feel out of control and unorganized. It's the mental anxiousness that looks for what needs to be done, how, when, and why.
Don't linger over what you should have done or what you should do, but instead think of the now. Make your Office, your own. Find something small that you enjoy doing at work, and focus on that one simple thing. By doing that, it helps set up a foundation of seeing simplicity in even complicated demands. The complexity happens when you try to think of everything at once, instead of focusing on one task at a time. When you focus on one idea at a time it's digestible, and reduces stress, which in turns makes you happier.
When the mind is relaxed and centered you are more productive.
The Zen of your work environment is a tool that can be used to help focus on one aspect of your everyday life, which in turn makes all the other areas more peaceful.
This idea may seem too simple, and your mind already wants specific things to do, or tasks, but that's it. It's a very simple idea and that's the point. When you can manage to focus on one thought at a time, and do each to the best of your ability, it will transcend through out your life. The most efficient people do this, they are not gifted with some super power, they are able to focus the task to their ability and better understand it.
As simple as it is, people over look it all the time. You can make your environment great or a nightmare depending on you perception of it. If you are a white color worker, your office or cubicle can be groomed they way you want it to keep you happy and relaxed. You may have an overload of emails, memos, and every day routines. The secret to multi tasking in an office atmosphere is to focus on one thing at a time. Having all your attention on one task lets you understand and evaluate it more. The more you understand, the simpler it becomes which reduces complexity and makes everyone much happier.
Lets say you are a blue collar working, granted you most likely are not sitting in a nice cushy ergonomic chair. Still nonetheless, be mindful of things that need to be done, but focus on one thing at a time. You would be surprised how well this works for anything.
The Art of Office Zen is an attempt to reduce the mental noise of complexity that we overload our minds with. All these negative things hurt your chances to be happy at work, home, and in life.
A happy worker is a productive worker, which is a benefit to what you do as well to yourself. Without delving into any spiritual hocus-pocus, we took one simple idea that works for anything.
No matter what you do for a living, keeping things simple wont make living complex work. No rules, or wrong ways about it, everyone is different, but one thing Office Zen can show that we all have in common is to be happy.

My Life Is Brilliant
This is the first line from a number one hit on the radio that is circulating the air waves lately.
It is part of a beautiful love song about a women and a man that passed by each other and shared an unspoken moment. The title jumped out at me as a statement that can reflect each of our lives.
Our lives are even more brilliant than what was suggested in this song by James Blundt. We are all so intimately connected, and the illusion is the separation. As we move in for a closer look and study our own life, we can begin to see just how unique and brilliant we are as individuals-connected.
As individuals, we tend to see our lives as successful or failed. What we do not see is how magnificent it is. It's often difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel when you are buried in the dirt that you have created while digging it. Reflecting on our life's circumstances takes some discipline. Most of us look only at the surface, and the results of our actions, rather than the causes and the patterns of behavior and thought that we use to create our circumstances.
Self analysis is difficult for us because we are so personally involved, and much of our analysis is about blaming. We consider what we do as good or bad, rather than brilliant. Our revue has much to do with emotion or feelings rather than cold analysis of facts. While performing self analysis, we try to justify each step, rather than just accepting it as fact and proceeding.
All of us have the ability to remove ourselves from our physical body and put ourselves in the position of the "silent observer." This unseen consciousness is somewhat elevated and removed from our physical being. From this position we can clearly see where we have come from and where we are going. We can clearly see whole patterns of movement that lead us to a result. Our thoughts become visible but clouded by emotions that obscure the true intend of what it is that we desire.
For instance, we may have a pattern of seeking relationships that are on the surface supportive, but subconsciously reinforce a root thought that we are undeserving of love. The pattern may lead us into a relationship with a certain type of individual time and time again, that turns out to be abusive and mentally damaging to our ego, because we believe that we deserve it.
If we can take the other person out of the equation for the moment and just look at ourselves from this lofty position of the "silent observer," the subtle patterns of thought are revealed. We can begin to see where we started, and the thoughts that created the outcome.
Your thoughts support the actions and the actions reinforce your root thoughts. "I am an undeserving person-and that is why I am in this bad relationship." So this is the root thought; now you proceed to create the obvious. You fool your ego into believing that you want a relationship that will be supportive of your desire to be deserving and you subconsciously look for a mate that will do just the opposite, because you don't deserve it.
With a close look at this pattern of behaviour, you will be able to see the destructive thoughts, and you will no longer be fooled. It doesn't necessarily mean that you will stop the pattern. If it is a thought that you have become comfortable with, you may continue repeating it. The ego does not like change, and will fight to keep the status quo.
So now the thoughts have been revealed and you can see where they have lead you many times-you have a choice that you never had before.
This is the brilliance that I am talking about. You are such a great creator, that you can have anything that you desire, and you know exactly how to get it.
The second line of that song is "My life is pure" should be a statement of your life as well. There is no one else in the history or future of humanity that can create the same was as you. You are one of a kind and an integral part of all things. The rest of humanity or life could not exist without you. As great or as miserable as you know your life to be-you are one piece of the puzzle, and the puzzle can never be complete without you.
How you live your life is a choice-you are never a victim but are creating it with the cooperation of others that interact with you. You become part of a group, a soul group which in turn is part of the whole and finally you see no connection, because there is no other one-there is just you. You are conscious and are interacting with yourself in the physical realm. You are creating an illusion of existence, and you are magnificent in your creation. Life is not about you, you are life itself, and that is what you are experiencing-the movement of life in all its aspects-life interacting with life, because life is all there is!
You life is brilliant, your life is pure-there is only one of you, and your master plan is beautiful-to experience being physical. Subconsciously you will create all the circumstances that will bring you a desired physical experience. Because that is what you want. When the light shines through, and you know that you have achieved your desire you will no longer wish it-you will desire something else.
When you begin to see the root cause of your circumstance, there will be no need to experience it again.

Personality Test- Your Time Management
All of us have heard quite a lot about time management. Thousands of books have appeared on this subject. The objective of time management is - how to set priorities, how to allocate time, how to effectively use it and how to get the best of the given time.
After learning all this and implementing, most of the people manage to implement only a part over long term. Write down today's work, and give it priority ranks. Nothing more is done by a large majority. How is your time management? What skills have you developed in this and can you measure the increase in effectiveness?
Do you assign time to every work? If yes, is that allocation on the higher side or lower side? With higher allocation of time, you will waste it and with lower allocation, you will undergo stress. How do you do that? I have a small suggestion. Estimate fair time and give a tolerance of about twenty five percent to that. For example, if you allocate one hour to write a report, take fifteen minutes as tolerance. So you will not undergo stress at least till one and quarter hours.
Are you assigning time to unexpected developments? You might be working on an assignment and suddenly your client calls you with a complaint that needs immediate attention. What will happen to your schedule? It will all go haywire. To avoid time management problems here, separate the most important tasks that must be done in the given time and draw another list of tasks that can be safely postponed. This will help you avoid stress.
Time management is both an art and a science. Don't become its slave. Make it your tool to work efficiently. Avoid getting pressurized by your own goals.
